One of the greater challenges with port forwarding is the vagaries with all different routers. But in particular, the Mac ecosystem is quite unique because it supports its own port forwarding process and its own version of UPnP. Most of these steps were initially gleaned from this Insteon page and then further augmented by our own experiences. I backup up an iMac and Windows PC over wireless and wired networks to this Time Capsule. I also use it as a file and media server for Apple, Windows, and Linux devices. It just works. I wish it had at least one more USB port and another ethernet port too, but within these limitations I have no complaints. Launching AirPort Utility, I select my router and click “Edit.” The port forwarding section is listed under the Network tab and labeled Port Settings. To create a new forwarding rule, click the Plus (+) button. It has three Gigabit ports, just like the Extreme, and even on this Time Capsule which is set up as a wireless bridge, I get about 280 MB/sec on its ethernet port (my internet service is 300 MB/sec). Pretty astounding for an extender sitting in the middle of the living room several yards away from the main router.
